One of the best parts of fall is easily pumpkins. Between Pumpkin Spice Lattes, pumpkin patches, jack o' laterns, and pumpkin pie, there are so many ways to put a twist on these delightful gourds. And there are almost as many ways to use them as there are places to actually pick them. So many it can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when you just want an easy, fun-filled day with the family.
Luckily for our fellow Orange County natives, we've rounded up a few of our favorite pumpkin patches in the area to help make the pumpkin picking process just a little bit easier. Check out our five favorites below!
1. Pumpkin City's Pumpkin Farm
Now in it’s 29th year (it started in 1978 as a pick-up load of pumpkins), Pumpkin City is so much more than just a pumpkin patch. This premier harvest festival features a petting zoo, pony rides, carnival games, a puppet show, and costumed characters, making it perfect for a fun day with family.
This pumpkin patch is located next to the Laguna Hills Mall, and is open Monday-Thursday, 11 A.M.-8:30 P.M., Friday-Sunday, 10 A.M.-10 P.M. For more information and directions, call (949) 768-1103 or visit pumpkincity.com.
2. Irvine Park Railroad Pumpkin Patch
The Irvine Park Railroad Pumpkin Patch is open daily through Halloween, and is free to enter (parking, $2). Activities here include picking your own pumpkins, riding the famous Irvine Park train, tractor rides, a bounce house, haunted houses, delicious food, and much more. There are endless activities to keep you and your family entertained all day long!

3. Tanaka Farms
Creating family memories since 1940, this local farm sprawls over 30 acres and sports plenty of fun for the whole family. Along with the large pumpkin patch, there is a corn maze, wagon ride, petting zoo, crafts, and other activities. This year, Tanaka Farms is also launching a unique, year-long partnership with Sanrio (of Hello Kitty fame), kicking off with this year’s Fall Harvest Festival. There will be a special Halloween event on October 28 featuring a Sanrio Costume Contest (complete with appearances by Hello Kitty) as part of this celebration.

4. Johnson Brother's Pumpkin Patch
Johnson Brothers has been serving up Halloween (and, later in the year, Christmas) spirit to Orange County residents since 1989. In addition to their large pumpkin patch, they also have activities for the whole family. Activities include pony rides, bounce houses, farm animals, an Indian village, rides, and face painting. Admission is free too!

5. The Pumpkin Factory
With 3 pumpkin patch locations in Live Oak Canyon, Corona, and Westminster Mall, The Pumpkin Factory is one of the most expansive pumpkin patch offerings in Orange County. Each location offers up plenty of opportunities for fun-filled memories. Come for the pumpkin patch, and stay for rides, corn mazes, slides, ponies, petting zoos, carnival games, delicious food, and more!
